My name is Rod Morgan and I am a candidate for the Alabama House of Representatives District 91. My wife and I are the proud grandparents of four wonderful grandchildren. We also have four daughters, but if you are blessed with grandchildren then you understand why I mentioned them first. If elected, my representation of our community will be founded on scripture and focused on the Alabama all of our grandkids will inherit. Some of the issues that I believe are of the utmost importance include:

  • Protecting and promoting our small businesses, they are the backbone of our communities.

  • Ensuring that our ethics laws stay strong. As public officials we should be champions of strong ethics laws.

  • Preventing the expansion of gambling in our state. Casino gaming does not bring the type of growth we need.

  • Preventing any expansion of the legal availability of marijuana.

My brother and I have run the family business we began for nearly a decade. And I have served you as our County Administrator since 2011. As both a small business owner and a public official, I believe that I have the qualifications and experience to effectively represent our home in Montgomery. You can learn more about my experience and qualifications, as well as a fuller discussion on the issues above, through the links below.

As I have prayed about this campaign, I have felt clearly led to ask you to pray about this election and do what God guides you to do, rather than asking directly for your support. Please understand that I would definitely appreciate your support if that is what you feel led to do. And I would certainly love your vote if that is where God leads you. But, I hope that you will understand when I ask you to pray for guidance instead of directly asking for your vote or your support.

The most consistent question I’ve been asked during the campaign has been what would happen with my current position if I were elected to the State House. My plan and intent is to remain as County Administrator if elected as State Representative. The law would allow me to hold both positions because a county administrator is not considered an office of profit. And I would be able to vote on bills that impact the County without a conflict of interests. Further, we have a seasoned staff and a plan that would provide for success at both positions. I would never do anything that would harm Coffee County, I believe my record over the last fourteen years shows that. While I have to be obedient to the call to run, I would not consider remaining as County Administrator if elected unless I was certain that I could do so successfully and with no harm to the County.
