Additional Qualifications

     It is not in my nature to talk about myself very much even though I understand that a campaign demands a certain amount of it. However, I have been consistently and strongly urged by a number of supporters to share some additional qualifications for your consideration, particularly those related to my experience with the legislative process and economic development. I’ll try to do so as briefly as I can.

     As an attorney, I know and understand the legislative process. I have experience drafting legislation and seeing it through the legislature. I have drafted all of our County bills for local legislation since 2011 and helped to ensure that they are enacted. I also monitor bills introduced each session to determine their potential impact on Coffee County and advocate for the County’s interests with the Legislature. I know how to read bills and I have the experience to consider their unintended consequences.

     Additionally, I have significant experience in economic development. As an attorney in private practice, I represented developers and clients in projects of all sizes and types, from retail to housing, and from manufacturing to health care. As a public official, I continued to use my legal experience to create jobs and bring businesses to Alabama. While with the City of Prattville, I developed a first of its kind structure that induced Hancock Bank to relocate a significant portion of its back office operations from New Orleans to downtown Prattville. With Coffee County, I led the County’s efforts to land Ben E. Keith’s Southeastern Headquarters and Regional Distribution Center. And I represented the County’s interest on the regional team that brought the VA Home to Enterprise.
