Rod Morgan for Alabama State House District 91
Experience in Public Service
I never thought I would be a public servant. When I was younger, my dream was to become an attorney. Despite the fact that I made that goal harder than necessary through poor decisions early in my academic career, I finally earned my law degree and began practicing in 2004. In 2006, I had the unexpected opportunity to join the City of Prattville as its Finance Director/Treasurer (essentially its CFO). I had no intention of accepting that offer. But, even though I was not being faithful to God at the time, He was faithful to me and led me where He intended for me to be. As you might expect, His plan was greater than mine and I found my true passion in public service, especially local government. We build our communities in local government. Whether through economic development, emergency management or building roads, we impact lives. I left Prattville in 2011 and moved home to Coffee County. On September 6, 2011, I was selected as the County Administrator for Coffee County, Alabama, and began what has been the most incredible and rewarding experience of my professional career. For the last fourteen and a half years I have had the privilege of helping to make our home the best place to live in Alabama.
During my nearly two decades in local government, I’ve built and administered budgets, helped recruit businesses to our community, been part of our response to emergencies, and guided the day to day operations of the County. In that time I’ve built relationships with other public officials across the State, including in the Legislature. I’ve drafted our local bills and have a proven history of successfully seeking local legislation. I understand the Legislature, its rules, and how it works. I also know Coffee County. I’ve represented the entire County in various capacities since 2011 and I understand our needs. I serve as the current Chairman of the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning & Development Commission, as well as representing Coffee County on the Boards of Directors for both the Southern Alabama Regional Council on Aging and South Central Alabama Mental Health.
I apologize that this is long, but it is hard to effectively condense two decades into much less. I have also had to use “I” in this post much more than I am accustomed to because it was necessary to describe my experience. But please know that any success I have had in my career came from God through the amazing teams and people around me. I hope that you found this information helpful as you give prayerful consideration to our next State Representative. If so, please share it with someone else for their consideration. I hope that you are not offended that I am not directly asking for your vote. As I’ve mentioned previously, I have been led to ask you to pray and do what you are led to do rather than ask directly for your vote or support. So please remember that, above all, I ask that you pray about this race and do what the Lord leads you to do. Thank you!
